Warsaw already has one of the largest fleets of electric buses in Europe. The electric fleet will soon be enlarged to twelve new electric articulated buses from Solaris, now ordered by Warsaw public transit authority ZTM. The new public transport electric vehicles are due to arrive in the Polish capital in 2024 and 2025.
The new dozen will join the 150 Solaris electric buses already silently transiting in the Polish capital. According to Solaris, the Urbino 18 Electric buses in this latest order are to be delivered to Warsaw in four stages between Q3 of 2024 and the end of 2025. The customer is ZTM, but the 18-metre buses will be used by Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe (MZA), a company that operates public bus transport in Warsaw.
Solaris says the new low-floor buses are 39-seater models, which also have two wheelchair and pushchair-friendly spaces. The buses will be charged in Warsaw using both depot plug-in chargers and pantographs. MZA plans to use the first Urbino 18 Electric buses on routes “that run through the central areas of the city”.
For Solaris, this is the first order from ZTM. However, the bus manufacturer has a partnership with MZA that goes back to 1997. The first electric bus reached the Polish capital back in 2015.
