Sovema Group announces a new battery lab project with Fraunhofer FFB

Sovema Group has announced the launch of a joint project with Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production FFB: the construction of a complete assembly line for the production of large-size pouch cells. Several institutes are involved with the project: Fraunhofer FFB, IWS and IPA as well as the chair PEM of RWTH Aachen University.

Sovema Group will develop a complete line from the electrode punching to the electrolyte filling, enabling Fraunhofer to manufacture innovative pouch cell formats with high precision and repeatability. The line will be installed in Fraunhofer’s new facility in Münster.

We are very proud to work with a high-level institution such as Fraunhofer,” stated Francesco Capuzzo, Sales & Marketing Director of Sovema Group. “Fraunhofer is a technological benchmark in Germany and beyond, especially in the battery field. Being selected as a partner for this project is an honor and a commitment that allows our company to become even more competitive in the cell assembly equipment landscape”.

On November 15 and 16, 2022, the two technical teams met at Sovema Group’s premises to kick off the project. According to the plans, the new lab is expected to be fully functional in Q1/2024.
