technotrans SE, Sassenberg, Germany, has been selected for two follow-up orders in the electrified rail transport sector. The specialist for thermal management solutions is to supply more than 100 battery cooling systems with a seven-digit order volume to two leading battery manufacturers. The energy-efficient units are to be used in electric regional trains in Italy and in hybrid shunting locomotives. In both cases the orders are for customised solutions which are precisely tailored to each specific application. Delivery of the battery cooling systems starts in late 2021, following on directly after current orders from both customers.
“With these follow-up orders, we are underlining our claim to technological leadership in the field of rail transport battery systems. At the same time, the continuation of these business relationships provides confirmation of the reliability and efficiency of our tried-and-tested thermal management solutions,” says Michael Finger, spokesman of the board of technotrans SE. The electromobility sector is part of the Energy Management focus market which technotrans continues to expand within the framework of its “Future Ready 2025” corporate strategy. In this segment, battery cooling systems play a key role for the technology company.
Follow-up order running into millions
In the first follow-up order, technotrans will be supplying 82 cooling units over a period of about one year for use in regional trains in Italy. The battery manufacturer has already previously invested in 60 identical systems from technotrans. In this case it is a customer-specific version of a mobile battery cooling units which are notable for their compact design, precise temperature control and high energy efficiency. Each regional train is to be fitted with two technotrans systems.
The second follow-up order, from a battery manufacturer for hybrid shunting locomotives, is for the delivery of 29 units as a customer-specific version. Delivery is to be over the course of 2022. To date the customer has bought 21 of the high-tech cooling systems.
Both project partners have already signalled an interest in continuing our successful cooperation and have specifically mentioned the possibility of further orders for the period after 2022 as well. “One of the decisive reasons for our success in the growing rail sector is our excellent solution competence and flexibility. This makes it possible for us to adapt our products to the customers’ systems to optimum effect – even for the most complex requirements,” stresses Michael Finger. “We also have high production capacities and fast response times so that we can handle such large orders within short periods of time.”
