SAIC-GM, CATL co-launch industry’s 1st 6C ultra-fast-charging LFP battery

On September 25, SAIC-GM announced its collaboration with CATL to launch the industry’s first 6C ultra-fast-charging lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, marking a significant breakthrough in electric vehicle battery technology.

This new battery is expected to debut next year within the upgraded Ultium quasi-900V high-voltage battery platform.

According to SAIC-GM, the innovative battery integrates multiple cutting-edge technologies, including “Ultra Electronic Network Cathode Technology,” which significantly improves electrochemical reaction efficiency and enhances charging performance. Additionally, the battery is equipped with “Second-Generation Graphite Fast Ion Ring Technology,” combined with multi-gradient layered electrode sheets, which substantially reduce charging and discharging times while boosting energy density and cycle stability.

Notably, the new battery features an “ultra-high conductivity electrolyte formula,” a “nano-scale ultra-thin SEI (Solid Electrolyte Interphase) film,” and an “optimized high-porosity separator,” all of which work together to ensure superior battery performance. SAIC-GM also revealed that in just five minutes of charging, the battery can add over 200 kilometers of range, significantly alleviating range anxiety for electric vehicle users.
