LG Energy Solution has decided to build its new battery manufacturing facility in Queen Creek (Arizona), Gov. Doug Ducey announced.
The facility will be used to produce cylindrical-type batteries that are ideal for electric vehicles due to its high-density and compact energy storage.
It is the first facility of its kind in North America, according to a press release, and represents a $1.4 billion investment for the global company.
Ducey said in the release:”The historic investment from LG Energy Solution is a generational one that will support thousands of good-paying jobs in Pinal County and throughout the state. Construction on the East Valley facility is set to begin this summer, with production getting underway by 2024 and establishing the company’s presence in North America’s cylindrical battery market.”
Youngsoo Kwon, CEO of LG Energy Solution, said in the release: With the establishment of our new Arizona plant, LG Energy Solution aims to deliver unparalleled consumer value in the rapidly growing cylindrical battery market.”

LG Energy Solution is the latest to choose Arizona as a home for high-tech manufacturing, joining companies like Intel, TSMC, Lucid, Nikola and ElectraMeccanica.
