KORE Power, Inc., a leading U.S.-based developer of battery cell technology for the energy storage and clean energy industry, announces it has opened a new office in France to serve the growing renewable energy market in Europe.
Increased government subsidies and falling technology costs are causing clean energy to surge in Europe. Wood Mackenzie reports that renewables overtook fossil fuels on the European grid for the first time in the beginning of 2020. Growth is only expected to continue through 2030 and beyond. As more variable resources like wind and solar make up the largest share of power capacity throughout Europe’s major markets, flexible energy storage resources will be necessary to balance the grid. By 2040, Europe could have 320 gigawatt-hours of available storage capacity, mostly from front-of-the-meter battery systems.
With its new office, KORE Power is ready to fulfill that need, avoiding supply chain constraints like those the market experienced this year due to the pandemic. Factory lockdowns in response to the COVID-19 crisis have disrupted manufacturing in China and the greater Asia Pacific region, the largest market for battery storage system production. KORE Power provides an alternative supply source to benefit EMEA customers.
“KORE’s ability to supply customers based on location and closeness to facilities offers flexibility, assured lead times and guaranteed pricing,” said Lindsay Gorrill, CEO of KORE Power. “As a leading U.S.-based battery cell manufacturer, we are not dependent on foreign entities, which allows us to deliver an ‘end-to-end’ energy storage supply chain to Europe, supporting our mutual vision of fostering a rapid pathway to widespread adoption of clean, efficient and reliable energy.”
