Siro, a joint venture between Farasis Energy and Turkish global mobility technology brand Togg, has started production at the new Gemlik site in Turkey on March 31st. With a capacity of 3 GWh/a, battery modules and packs based on Farasis Energy’s high-performance lithium-ion technology will be produced. Annual capacity of the production facility will increase to 20 GWh/a by 2031. Siro supplies Togg, customers of Farasis Energy Europe as well as own customers in automotive, industrial applications and stationary storage solutions.
The start of the module and pack production is the result of a successful strategic partnership: Farasis Energy, one of the leading developers and producers of lithium-ion battery technology, and Togg, the global mobility technology brand, are joining forces for the Siro joint venture. The new plant, which was built in around 1.5 years, officially started mass production on March 31st, 2023, covers an area of 26,000 m² and employs more than 300 people.
“The opening of Siro’s production site highlights this successful partnership,” explains Dr. Keith Kepler, Vice Chairman of Siro and Co-founder of Farasis. Dr. Stefan Bergold, Member of the Board of Siro und General Manager at Farasis Energy Europe, adds: “Our manufacturing experience and expertise helped to build the plant in less than two years and our know-how complements Togg’s user perspective perfectly.”
In addition to the strategically important production, development is also a high priority in Turkey. Parallel to the growth plans in Gemlik, a research and development center including a prototype production is being built with a headquarter in Bilisim Vadisi, near Gebze. Gürcan Karakas, Chairman of Siro and CEO at Togg, explains, “There are continuously new developments in the field of battery technology, and we need to be close on the pulse of the time in order to offer our customers the best solutions possible. That is why research and development have a high priority at Siro.”
