Dutch-Spanish JV targets 500 MW of energy storage in Spain

Dutch energy transition invest & build platform Return and Spanish renewables firm Benbros Energy have signed an agreement to form a joint venture (JV) focused on developing over 500 MW of standalone energy storage projects in Spain, according to a press release they sent out to media in their native countries.

The JV will initially roll out ten projects totalling 210 MW, with the plan to start construction of the first in 2025, the reports stated.

Return is said to have 70 MW of storage systems in operation and more than 16 GW in development in Northern Europe. The Dutch company expects to combine this experience with Benbros’ presence and execution capabilities in the Spanish market.

Return is currently present in Spain via its affiliates Ekhi, which focuses on delivering self-consumption and distributed energy solutions, CargaTuCoche, the installer of electric vehicle chargers, and solar and green hydrogen project ErasmoPower2X.

Benbros previously formed a solar-focused JV with Renewable Power Capital (RPC) to develop some 3.4 GW of projects in Spain.
